Conquering Stravinsky

Scott Smedinghoff 'GR

On Saturday, May 2, PhD candidate in Mathematics, Scott Smedinghoff will join the Dartmouth College Wind Ensemble to perform Igor Stravinsky's neo-classic masterpiece Concerto for Piano and Winds.   In addition to this performance, Scott will join DCWE conductor Matthew Marsit for a repeat performance of the Stravinsky Concerto with the Williams College Wind Ensemble on Friday, May 15, in Williamstown, MA.  This technical tour-de-force is a work everyone needs to experience, and maybe even more than once.  Consider joining Scott for both performance.

When it comes to trumpet, there is one man to call...
Benjamin Meyer '15

For all four of his years on the Dartmouth College campus, everyone's first call trumpet player has been Ben Meyer.  Whether its playing principal parts in the Dartmouth College Wind Ensemble, memorial ceremonies on the Green, or lead horn (and keyboard) in one of two campus bands, Ben is the man for the job. On Saturday, May 2, Ben takes his place in the front of the DCWE for a stunning performance of Arutiunian's Concerto for Trumpet and Symphonic Winds.  This virtuosic work, filled with intoxicatingly memorable gypsy melodies is a staple of the trumpet repertoire.
